Τον τελευταίο καιρό στις Η.Π.Α. έχει παρουσιαστεί μία μαζική “back ta basics” τάση! Μπάντες, εταιρίες, promoters, fanzines-webzines και hardcore kids υιοθετούν μία πιο positive old school στάση που έχοντας αφομοιώσει τις αρχές του old school hardcore, εντάσσεται στην πραγματικότητα του 2004! Όλοι όσοι αγαπάμε το hardcore το αποδεχόμαστε με όσα αρνητικά και αν έχει μιας και αναντίλεκτα τα όμορφα σε αυτό είναι απείρως περισσότερα! Φαίνεται όμως πως πολλοί είμαστε αυτοί που νιώθουμε νοσταλγία για πράγματα που ποτέ δε ζήσαμε μα νιώσαμε μέσω των συναισθημάτων που μας μετέφεραν οι μπάντες τους παρελθόντος...Έτσι υπάρχει μία ολόκληρη γενιά παιδιών που κουράστηκαν από το υπερβολικό tuff guy attitude, σταμάτησαν να μελαγχολούν με τις emo μελωδίες, βαρέθηκαν να βλέπουν metal μπάντες να καταχρώνται τον όρο που στιγμάτισε τη ζωή τους και αποζητούν όσα έμαθαν από τους παλαιότερους: απλή και πιασάρικη μουσική ως μέσο ενός μηνύματος που εκφράζει ένα συγκεκριμένο τρόπο ζωής!

Η Youngblood Records, η Bridge Nine Records και εν μέρει η Deathwish, η Trustkill, η Martyr και η Malfunction records άρχισαν να κυκλοφορούν δίσκους από τέτοιες μπάντες! Το Posi Numbers Festival έγινε το festival για τις μπάντες αυτής της τάσης και τα χιλιάδες παιδιά άρχισαν ξανά να τραγουδούν παθιασμένα τους στίχους, να χορεύουν στο pit και να περπατούν στα κεφάλια των ομοίων τους στα hardcore shows! Όλα κάνουν τον κύκλο τους και είναι σχεδόν βέβαιο πως σταδιακά άλλα ιδιώματα που τώρα αποδυναμώνονται θα επανέλθουν στο προσκήνιο. Όπως και να ‘χει το καλό θα έχει γίνει! Παιδιά που τώρα μπαίνουν στη φάση θα καταλάβουν...what it stands for,θα αποκτήσουν την αρμόζουσα νοοτροπία και το hardcore θα διατηρηθεί ζωντανό και ακμαίο! Και αν με ρωτάτε γιατί πιστεύω πως θα συμβεί αυτό η απάντηση βρίσκεται στους υπέροχους στίχους που έχουν όλες αυτές οι μπάντες. Ας δούμε λοιπόν τους βασικούς συντελεστές αυτού του positive hardcore κύματος...

Champion.Έρχονται από το Seattle και παίζουν μελωδικό old school hardcore! Οι στίχοι τους είναι συναισθηματικοί όσο και επιθετικοί και καταπιάνονται με τα θέματα που απασχολούν όσους βλέπουν το Hardcore ως κάτι περισσότερο από μουσική! Σύντομα θα κυκλοφορήσουν από την Bridge Nine το full length τους “Promises Kept” ενώ ήδη παίζει το “Time slips away” που περιέχει τα δύο τους ep! Ενδεικτικά διαβάστε τους στίχους του κομματιού τους “Monument” και σκεφτείτε όσα θέλουν να πουν:

When I walk through these doors. I see the face from thousands of nights before. And the light in their eyes makes it more than it's ever been before. Our blood our sweat, and all of the tears that are shed. Our blood, our sweat, and all the words we've said. And the promises we've kept. I see two paths that we can take and there's a choice. The Promise Έρχονται από τη Νέα Υόρκη με μία καινούργια μουσική προσέγγιση στο old school και με στίχους που έχουν να κάνουν με το straight edge αλλά και την ανεκτικότητα στα πλαίσια της hardcore σκηνής! Μετά το “My true love” 7ιντσο στη Deathwish κυκλοφόρησαν το υπέροχο “Believer” στην Indecision Records! Μία μπάντα που έχει πραγματικά κάτι διαφορετικό να πει και μεγαλώνει μέσα σου με το χρόνο τόσο μουσικά όσο και στιχουργικά! Ενδεικτικά τσεκάρετε τους στίχους του κομματιού “Believer” από το ομώνυμο album:

So much has been killed by hacks masking tough. Vicious thoughts from bitter tots, a tattoo was never enough, played the part but didn't know what it all meant. Only thought of being hard and impressing friends. The proof is here by holding on to what we think is right. Clinging to just a few words to get us by. Terror Νομίζω πως αυτή τη μπάντα από το Los Angeles τη γνωρίζετε όλοι και ελπίζω να μην κάνατε το σφάλμα να μην τη δείτε live! Τι να γράψω για τους Terror; Πρόκειται για την πλέον ανερχόμενη μπάντα του καθαρόαιμου hardcore! Μετά το “Lowest of the Law” ep και το split με τους Ringworm κυκλοφορούν σύντομα μέσω της Trustkill το “One with underdogs”, ένα απίστευτο δίσκο με ύμνους όπως το “Overcome”! Από το ep τους θεωρώ καλύτερο κομμάτι το “Life and death” και σας παραθέτω τους θεϊκούς του στίχους:

So many times left alone. This was my only home. Again down on my luck this is all I fucking got. You think it's sad that I'm still here. Well save that shit cuz I don't fucking care. All I've seen, all you've taught to me, is forever instilled in me. You say you fucking live for this, but what the fuck did you ever give? I gave everything. You know I'll die to keep this alive. Because if this ever dies, I fucking die. Life and death for me.

Comeback Kid: Είναι Καναδοί και έχουν στη σύνθεσή τους μέλη από τους Figure Four! Παίζουν positive hardcore σε φάση Bane αλλά έχουν και beatdowns που συνηθίζονται από τις brutal hardcore μπάντες! Οι στίχοι τους είναι λίγο πιο γενικοί αλλά και πάλι πολύ καλοί! Τσεκάρετε το “Turn it around” album τους στη Facedown Records και θα καταλάβετε πως μιλάμε για μία πραγματικά μεγάλη μπάντα! Οι στίχοι του “Changing Face” είναι ενδεικτικοί:

What have you become? Now you fight a losing war. I look at this and it's all a mess. Seems like anything that's real, I just can't see. I can't see the truth in you. I can't see the real in you. Show your face and take the world. But instead, you have to fit the mould. With this front you're losing respect. I know you're better than that. Your time is running out. Your front is wearing thin. So how long can you live like this. I know this isn't who you really are. Do you want to break free, from all the lies you put in front? Now take them back. Do you want to break free? I don't need a crew, to validate myself. You're all the same. Your indentity, fading fast.

Desperate Measures: Αυτή η μπάντα από το Maryland της Washigton είναι από είναι από τις πλέον ανερχόμενες κυρίως λόγω των τέλειων live shows που λέγεται πως δίνει! Υπήρξαν το higlight του Posi Numbes festival στην Pennsylvania και έχουν περιοδεύσει με πολλές μεγάλες μπάντες! Έχουν κυκλοφορήσει το ep “It’s on your hands” και το album “Never enough time” στα οποία παραδίδουν μαθήματα old school hardcore και positive attitude! Το απόσπασμα από μία τους συνέντευξη είναι χαρακτηριστικό της φιλοσοφίας της μπάντας:

The band’s primary messages that appear throughout their debut full-length ‘Never Enough Time’ (they previously released an EP entitled ‘It’s on Your Hands’), reflect these desires. To wit, the album features no preaching, but rather is brimming with truly far-reaching subject matter and themes that anyone can relate to, such as doing what you feel to be right, the importance of friendships, and many references to living life to the fullest, as on the title track, “Never Enough Time”, with lines like “Make the most of time and do what you can, without regrets and what could have been/Time moves fast and it could pass you by, so take the moments before you die.” Along the same lines, improving one’s life and moving on is also a major theme. Take these lines from “Full Circle”: “The choices are yours and what you can do/Either give up on life or make it through/Learn from your mistakes and the choices you’ve made/Always try again with everyday.” Gene makes it clear that the lyrics have this overall positive feel because all the members of the band – himself, vocalist/chief lyricist Ryan, guitarists Eric and Danny, and bassist Jon – have a similar outlook on life, and they try to steer clear of really specific topics like straight edge and just write “lyrics that could apply to anyone’s life, but at the same time, our lyrics don’t really seem to [concentrate] on the negative and we definitely all really stand behind that.”

Far From Breaking:Πολύ καλό old school hardcore από την ανερχόμενη σκηνή του Texas! Έχουν κυκλοφορήσει τα eps “Made my choice” και “The identity” μέσω της Youngblood Records!

Internal Affairs: Γρήγορο hardcore από το Los Angeles που σε σημεία γίνεται πιο Madball-ικό. Έχουν περιοδεύσει με Terror και Born From Pain ενώ εκτός από το demo τους παίζει και το album “Casualty of the core”.

Outbreak:Από το Main και έχουν κυκλοφορήσει μέσω της Bridge Nine το ep “Eaten Alive” και το album “You make us sick”. Χαρακτηριστικό τους είναι τα πολύ μικρής διάρκειας κομμάτια και οι υπερβολικά επιθετικοί στίχοι!

The Distance: Από το Connecticut και πρόσφατα μέσω της Bridge Nine κυκλοφόρησαν το ep “Your closest enemies”! Θυμίζουν αρκετά Outbreak αλλά έχουν πιο βαρύ και συμπαγή ήχο.

Αυτά σε γενικές γραμμές! Υπάρχουν και άλλες μπάντες στη φάση αλλά προτίμησα να μείνω σε αυτές που πέρα από το ότι είναι οι βασικές του «ιδιώματος» είναι και αυτές για τις οποίες γνωρίζω καλύτερα! Με τον καιρό σίγουρα θα εμφανιστούν και άλλες που θα σας τις παρουσιάσουμε σε reviews και με άλλους τρόπους! Μέχρι τότε καλά να περνάτε και thanks για το χρόνο σας!
