Σίγουρα μια από τις πιο ξεχωριστές μπάντες της New York σκηνής -κυρίως μέσα στα 90’s- ήταν οι H2O. To ανάλαφρο Punk Rock στυλάκι τους ξεχώριζε κατά πολύ από το αντίστοιχο σοβαρό Hardcore των υπολοίπων, κάτι που τους έκανε ιδιαίτερα αγαπητούς στον κόσμο ακόμα και έξω από τα όρια της πόλης τους. Ιδιαίτερα στα χρόνια που κυκλοφόρησαν τα Η20, Thicker Than Water και F.T.T.W. μέσω της Epitaph γνώρισαν μεγάλη επιτυχία, κάτι που μάλλον δεν έγινε τόσο με το Go του 2001 μιας και η μετατροπή σε Pop-Punk ήχο δεν έγινε ιδιαίτερα αποδεκτή. Χαρακτηριστικό της πορείας τους είναι ότι έχουν περιοδεύσει σχεδόν με ότι μπάντα έχει βγει από την Underground σκηνή της Νέας Υόρκης, μέχρι και κάποια mainstream ονόματα όπως οι No Doubt, Sum 41, Blink 182 και Good Charlotte.
Παρ’ ότι είχαν ανακοινώσει την διάλυση τους πριν από κάτι χρόνια ανά καιρούς πραγματοποίησαν μερικές εμφανίσεις, δείγμα του ότι κάποια στιγμή πιθανότατα θα έμπαιναν στο studio για ένα ακόμα full length…Αυτό έγινε με το Nothing To Prove που κυκλοφόρησε τον Ιούνιο και κυριολεκτικά μου κράτησε την καλύτερη συντροφιά σχεδόν όλο το καλοκαίρι!
Όσοι περιμένατε έναν πιο Old School Punk ήχο που θα μας παρέπεμπε στις πρώτες κυκλοφορίες τους μάλλον θα απογοητευτείτε, μιας και για μία ακόμα φορά ακούμε το γνωστό τους Pop Punk/Punk Rock που είχε τόσο κατηγορηθεί κατά την περίοδο του Go. Σε καμία μα καμία περίπτωση φυσικά αυτό δεν είναι άσχημο αφού τα κομμάτια είναι εξαιρετικά, πολύ πιο γρήγορα, άψογα εκτελεσμένα και όπως αναμενόταν οι στίχοι πετυχαίνουν κατευθείαν μέσα στο ψαχνό! Με αυτό εννοώ πως αφορούν θέματα φιλίας, αγάπης αλλά και την τωρινή κατάσταση της Hardcore/Punk σκηνής στο What Happened που τους στίχους του παραθέτω στο τέλος του κειμένου προς ανάγνωση και προβληματισμό…
Σημαντικό στοιχείο στο Nothing To Prove είναι επίσης οι συμμετοχές από άλλους καλλιτέχνες σε διάφορα κομμάτια που μόνο και μόνο στο άκουσμα τους μου σηκώνεται η τρίχα…Σημειώστε: Freddy Cricien (Madball), Roger Miret (Agnostic Front), Civ (Gorilla Biscuits), Paul Delaney (Kill Your Idols), Danny Diablo (Crown Of Thornz/Skarhead), Kevin Seconds (7 Seconds), Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio) και Lou Koller (Sick Of It All) μεταξύ άλλων! Όχι άσχημα νομίζω.
Το Nothing To Prove εν ολίγοις είναι μια εξαιρετική κυκλοφορία και παράλληλα πολύ καλή επιλογή για soundtrack του καλοκαιριού. Όσοι ασχολείστε με το συγκεκριμένο είδος, σπεύσατε επειγόντως!
